WHY DO A CROWN? WHAT INITIATES THE NEED?

  • OLD MERCURY ALLOY FILLINGS, LEAKING OR BROKEN
    • Metal amalgam fillings are especially problematic. These fillings are very hard and resistant to wear, but they expand and contract differently from your natural teeth. This means that when you drink hot beverage
    • s or eat hot foods, the fillings expand faster than your teeth, putting pressure on them. This can create cracks that cause your teeth to break. This is in addition to other concerns about metal fillings.
  • ROOT CANAL TREATED TEETH
    • Teeth that have undergone root canal treatment become dry and fragile since the tooth no longer gets nutrition from the body to remain strong. That is why the dentist advises you to get it crowned at the earliest.
  • DRY MOUTH AND DECAY
    • Saliva helps with many potential dangers to your teeth using antibacterial properties to reduce the amount of harmful bacteria in your mouth. It can neutralize acid, reducing the impact of acidic foods and drink on your teeth, and saliva has minerals that help your teeth strengthen themselves. It’s the closest thing we have to healing teeth. It’s a slow process, but your teeth can weaken without it. Dry mouth, sugars and acidity can lead to cavities which break down enamel, dentin, and lead to crown coverage.
  • TRAUMATIC BITE / IMPROPE
    R ALIGNMENT

    • When your bite is not balanced, normal biting forces become sufficient enough to cause some teeth to get chipped off. Bite imbalance can be caused by tooth loss or crooked teeth.
  • CLENCHING AND GRINDING

    • Putting heavy stresses on your teeth during the daytime and nighttime will lead to cusp fractures, and breakdown of tooth structure.
  • HARD FOODS
    • Crunching ice with your teeth, cracking nuts, or using your teeth for other tasks can also similarly affect your teeth.
  • NUTRIENT DEFICIENCY
    • You need enough calcium and make sure you’re getting the vitamins that help your body absorb calcium and use it, including vitamins D and K. Without these nutrients there is a higher risk for developing decay that can lead to degradation.
  • CRACKED TOOTH SYNDROME
    • Any part of a tooth can be cracked. The crack may be visible, though this is not always the case.If a person experiences pain when chewing food, or if teeth suddenly become sensitive to hot and cold, one tooth may be a cracked.Any pain associated with a cracked tooth tends to come and go. This can make it more challenging for a dentist to locate the crack, especially if it is very small.Anyone who suspects that they have a cracked tooth should make an appointment with the dentist as soon as possible. Leaving a cracked tooth untreated may lead to more problems, pain, and discomfort over time.

What are the effects of broken tooth?

Once a tooth is broken, it can have various effects that range from mild to severe. Few of them are described below.

  • No pain. If the tooth has lost only a part of its first layer (enamel), you may not experience pain.
  • Tooth Sensitivity. If the tooth has lost a part or most of the middle layer (dentin), there are chances for sensitivity while consuming hot and cold foods or drinks.
  • Intense pain. When the pulp (the innermost layer) of the broken tooth is exposed, you may experience severe pain due to nerve exposure.
  • Discomfort due to sharp ends. Apart from the effects on the tooth, you will experience discomfort each time your cheeks or tongue touches the sharp ends of the broken tooth.
  • Lowered immunity. According to recent studies, if the tooth is decayed, bacteria find easy access to the blood circulation of our body. Hence, your immunity could get compromised.
