The CO2 laser is a highly effective, FDA-approved technology that offers a painless and quick solution for patients of all ages. By minimizing bleeding and recovery time, it provides a superior alternative to traditional methods for eliminating canker sores, removing oral bumps, and performing tongue or lip-tie releases.
Beyond simple procedures, it is also a powerful tool for treating snoring caused by soft tissue collapse, making it a versatile and safe choice for enhancing oral health and overall quality of life.

An Update: Soft Palate
Laser Therapy For Snoring
Laser Therapy For Snoring
In March we launched a new treatment for our patients: soft palate laser therapy to reduce snoring. We are happy to report that patients have seen a tremendous improvement in two ways: heavily reduced snoring AND better breathing / nasal airflow. We did not expect to see such positive results after just one week, given the quick and painless procedure. This is a great adjunct for patients who have sleep apnea, nasal congestion, allergies, deviated septum, or just elongated soft palatal tissue.

The Power of Soft Palate

The uvula, a small dangly muscular structure suspended from the soft palate, helps close off the nasopharynx during swallowing. It maintains throat moisture through mucus secretion and contributes to vocal resonance. By tightening the collagen in the back of the throat with Laser therapy, we can see more of the airway and a visible uvula after just a few weeks! Patients report overall health improvement with quality of life. Shown above.

I am very pleased to have had the soft palate CO2 cold laser treatment.
I have had very severe sleep apnea since I have aged. This was never a problem previously. As a result, I have been prescribed a CPAP machine after a sleep-study and have used it effectively for the past 10 months.
While it does the job of relieving the apnea, it is very cumbersome to use, especially when traveling, which I do frequently.
I first heard about this laser treatment in an e-mail message from Dr. Furman and thought that it would be worth pursuing. As I understand it, the soft-palate, along with other tissues in the body, sag as we age. When palate sags, it blocks the breathing passage, resulting in severe snoring and sleep apnea. The laser helps to contract these tissues and therefore shrink them so as to open the breathing passage. This made sense to me, and I scheduled the procedure.
She took before and after pictures of my soft-palate which was very helpful to better understand the problem snd the possible benefits of treatment. The sessions last only a few minutes. There is very little pain, during the procedure, and for me, none afterwords.
On my drive home after the first treatment, I surprisingly felt my breathing improve on my left throat. And this has remained so. I returned for a second treatment after 2.5 weeks and we looked at the before and after pictures. My palate was significantly less engorged post-treatment, particularly on the left side. She gave me an additional treatment focused more on my right palate. I have been having trouble with this part of my palate for years with inflammation. I am hopeful that this treatment will reduce this ever-present inflammation there, as it contributes to my trouble breathing. I did feel some relief on my right-side following this second treatment.
I return in 2,5 weeks so that we can again measure the results. I am hopeful, given my first treatment, that we will see visual results with less swelling on my right side.
I would recommend this treatment to anyone having similar problems. Once my treatments are complete, I plan to wean myself off of the CPAP machine. I can always go back to it if needed, but if this simple procedure does the trick, amen.
